Hornets Steamroll Benton for Jam the
Gym
The Chillicothe Hornets took the lead before the clock even started
and polished off St Joseph Benton 68-45 for their 12th win of the
season during the annual Jam the Gym night.
The game
started when Benton was called for a Technical Foul due to a
scorebook error. Chillicothe's Nic Voorhies hit one of two free
throws and the Hornets were off an rolling. Chillicothe was hot in
the first half, unofficially shooting 72% from the floor in an 18 of
25 performance.

The 68 points are the most scored since Chillicothe
scored 68 exactly three years ago in a loss to Smithville.
Chillicothe had four players in double figures led by Tyler Clampitt
with 16, Nic Voorhies with 15, Tyler Midgyett with 12, Jacob McKiddy
with 11, Spencer Hart with 7, DJ Gannan with 5, Trevor Reger with 2
and playing time for Jake Mathew, Blake Rasmussen, Ryan Smith and
Mitchell Smith. Chillicothe improves to 12-9 on the year and 2-2 in
MEC play.
St Joseph
Benton won the first two games of the night, winning the JV game
51-34 and the Freshman game 47-29. For the Junior Varsity Hornets,
Trent Moore had 12, Gillen Gates, Walker Thomas and David
Hershberger with 5 each, Blake Rasmussen with 3 and Nate Laidler and
Jacob McCullough with 2 each.
For the Hornet
9th grade team, Hayden Major had 8, Austin Sharp with 6, Austin
Morse with 5, Jesse McCoy with 4 and Jared Lauhoff, Derek Hussey and
Nick Meyers with 2 each.

The Chillicothe wrestling team
picked up two more victories in a double dual at St Joseph
Lafayette. The Hornets won 8 of 11 contested matched to beat Butler
48-25, and benefited from five Lafayette open weight classes to beat
the Irish 48-30

113lbs Kyler Sewell lost 6-2 and had a bye

Lady Hornets Struggle Again 2/02
Chillicothe suffered for the second straight game, falling to
St Joseph Benton 53-21. Chillicothe started out ice cold,
picking up their first points 10 minutes and 3 seconds into
the game.
The scoring came seldom through the entire game for
Chillicothe which, according to official statistics, shot just 4
of 35 from the floor, or 11.4% for the game.
Benton had a strong second quarter thanks to hot
outside shooting, hitting six treys in the game. The Lady
Cardinals also used a stiff defense to force awkward shots,
tie-ups and turnovers during the game. Chillicothe managed
just one field goal in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters, plus a
trey in the fourth. The other 12 points came from the free
throw line.
Maddy Williams had 6 points, Maggie Graves and Faith
Peters with 4 each, Erin Gilliland, Mackenzie Barnett and Lexi
Snyder had 2 each, Paige Peters with 1 point and playing time for
Samantha Baldwin, Mallory Gaston and Crysten Lollar.
With the Benton 53-21 win, both teams are now 10-11 on
the season and 1-2 in MEC play.
Benton made it a clean sweep with wins over the
Chillicothe JV and 9th grade teams. The Benton JV team won 42-26.
Chillicothe was led by Bridgett Kieffer with 9, Samantha Baldwin and
Paige Peters with 6 each, Madi Critten with 3 and Crysten Lollar
with 2.
The Benton 9th grade team won 25-16. Jozie Reeter had 5
points, Hallee Jones with 4, Katlyn Hamilton with 3, Emily Stewart
and Carlee Johnson both had 2 points
Lewis Signs with Baker University 2/01

It was national signing day today for high school football players.
Locally, Chillicothe Hornet Jacob Lewis formally signed with Baker
University in a ceremony at Chillicothe High School. Lewis, who showed
his versatility playing a variety of positions on the Hornets team,
said there were several reasons why he chose Baker University

Lewis is just the latest of several Chillicothe Hornets
that have played at Baker University over the last few years. Hornets
Coach Phil Willard says Lewis will do great at Baker.

Lewis stated he will likely play either strong safety
or outside linebacker.

Smithville Shooting Smothers Hornets

Smithville used hot shooting the
entire game to dismantle Chillicothe 74-56. Chillicothe scored the
first points of the game on free throws but that would be their only
lead of the game.
Smithville, starting four juniors and a sophomore, was
sound in all aspects of the game, shooting 67% from the floor while
running their offense and knocking home uncontested shots all night
long.
Hornets Coach Tim Cool said Smithville is peaking at the right time.

Jacob McKiddy led Chillicothe with 27 points, Tyler
Clampitt with 14, Nic Voorhies with 9, Jake Mathew, Trevor Reger and
Spencer Hart with 2 each. Everyone that suited up for the Hornets
received at least a little playing time. Smithville improves to 6-13
overall and 1-1 in MEC play while Chillicothe drops to 11-9 overall
and 1-2 in MEC play. Chillicothe hosts Benton on Friday for "Jam the
Gym" night.
The Chillicothe JV downed Smithville 25-15 in a cold-shooting night
for both teams. Ryan Smith had 7 points, Walker Thomas and David
Hershberger with 5 each, Gillen Gates with 4, Trent Moore with 3 and
Blake Rassmussen with 1.

short, losing 34-28. Jared Lauhoff led the freshmen hornets with 12
points, Austin Morse with 6, Hayden Major with 5, Austin Sharp with
