Livingston Co. Jail Gets New Paint
2/03 12:00pm

    The Livingston County Jail has a new paint job and the detainees are returning. Sheriff Steve Cox says the majority of the jail had the original paint from 1978 and was in need of repainting. The work included painting the day areas of the jail a bright yellow. All the metal bars, bunks, tables were painted black. Cox says the day area went from beige to bright yellow.
<Audio: Steve Cox 1>
     Cox says the project was possible because the jail was at 25, the lowest population they've had in years. In addition to the painting, other work was also needed and this provided an opportunity for the work to be completed.
<Audio: Steve Cox 2>
     Seven trustee detainees stayed at the jail while the work took place and provided the labor for much of the painting. The remainder of the detainees were transferred to Grundy, Caldwell and to the Daviess Dekalb jails. Most of the detainees were returned Friday morning and Cox says so far they like the change in the colors.
